ANXIETY

Anxiety problems are on the rise in our society. With all the stresses of modern life, many struggle with worry, self-doubt, avoidance, irritability, and even panic attacks. Frequently people suffer with anxiety in silence and never get help. Still others with anxiety use alcohol to calm their nerves or drugs to get high and numb out. Other forms of anxiety disorders can manifest from trauma experiences like verbal, physical, sexual abuse, or from accidents and violence.

Anxiety disorders are very treatable. There is no need to medicate your nervous and anxious feelings with alcohol and/or drugs. There are many treatment options that a trained professional can use to help you. Call for an appointment to assess your concerns and determine how I might be able to help you.

Anxiety symptoms often play havoc with your life. Worry can wreck even the most pleasant day. Or worse, stop you from taking steps to make your life better. Novelist Edgar Wallace wrote in his book The Clue of the Twisted Candle, “Fear is a tyrant and a despot, more terrible than the rack, more potent than a snake.” Anxiety symptoms can include;

• Worries, fears and anxious thoughts about what might happen in the future. Racing thoughts.
• Avoidance of stressful activities, people and places. A strong desire to run away. This can include a tendency to isolate.
• Difficulty with restful sleep
• Tiredness and fatigue
• Irritability, frustration and anger
• Overreacting to minor events
• Struggles with concentration and focus
• Physical symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness lightheadedness, tension headaches, hot flashes or chills, sweaty palms, stomach aches and chest pains (if you have this symptom, get checked by a doctor immediately)
